I’ve got 2 4tb externals added to the 1tb oneX and i’m 70% full. i hate deleting games after i’ve installed them (have 330 of 436 games installed right now). This gen a External is a must, and 2tb is definitely the bare minimum size, id suggest a 4tb, especially with rumours the new consoles are gonna be BC so hopefully you can just unplug your HDD and plug it into the next gen when it starts
