A production-looking and wildly camouflaged Audi e-tron SUV made its debut at the Geneva auto show this week. Audi wrapped its SUV not to hide it, but rather to show it off. Hence the orange accents and “e-tron” logos splashed around. Unlike most camo, it doesn’t obfuscate the body lines — it accentuates them.
The e-tron prototype is powered by three electric motors with a total output of 320 kW (about 429 hp). Basically, they’re used as an all-wheel-drive system. It will use a 95-kWh battery pack, good for 310 miles of range on the European cycle. That would mean a little less for the EPA, and according to Audi, it will be ready for long-distance driving after just 30 minutes connected to a 150-kW charger.

Audi is currently testing these e-trons all over the world, including a bunch in Geneva that the company is hoping will generate buzz on social media (#etron). It has been running in temps ranging from minus-4 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit everywhere from Africa to America, China and Scandinavia. When finished, the 250 examples will have run about 3 million test miles.
The e-tron SUV will be produced at the company’s Brussels plant, and orders for delivery in Europe will start at the end of this year. We’ll get more info on U.S. sales and timing later this year.
