Fresh off the release of the Honor 7X, Huawei’s youth-friendly sub-brand is back again with another mid-range phone for the European market. Announced at an event in London earlier today, the Honor 9 Lite is on sale now for [PRICE TBC] in the UK, [TBC availability]

As the first Lite version of an Honor flagship to reach Western Europe, many of you might be wondering what to expect from the Honor 9 Lite. Fear not as here we’ll be breaking down all the key features and specs you need to know. For more, be sure to check out our first impressions of the phone coming out of its release in India just a few weeks ago.

Honor’s recent additions to its lineup have all switched over to an 18:9 FullView display and the Honor 9 Lite continues that trend. The 5.65-inch IPS panel with a 2160 x 1080 resolution (428 ppi) is surrounded by minimal bezels.

Those slimmer bezels mean there’s no room for a front-facing fingerprint sensor found on the original Honor 9. Instead, Honor reverts back to a circular sensor on the rear like we saw on the Honor 8, and more recently the Honor 7X.

The Honor 9 Lite other marquee feature is its quad-camera setup. Both the front and rear modules are made up of 13 MP and 2 MP lenses, with the latter responsible for capturing depth-of-field information for bokeh-style snaps.

Spec-wise, the Honor 9 Lite is powered by Huawei’s octa-core Kirin 659 chipset (4 x 2.36GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz). The UK model comes with 3 GB of RAM, a 3,000 mAh battery, and 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded (up to 256 GB) via a MicroSD card thanks to the phone’s dual-sim tray.

There isn’t a massive amount that differentiates Honor’s latest from the excellent Honor 7X on paper, but the two look drastically different in person.

While Honor’s decision to stick with a Micro USB port rather than USB-C is an absolute head-scratcher, at least the Chinese firm has opted for the most up-to-date OS. The Honor 9 Lite runs EMUI 8.0 out-of-the-box, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Honor has also included a 3.5mm headphone jack for all those buyers yet to grab a pair of wireless cans.

Overall, the Honor 9 Lite is an impressive offering considering its modest price-tag. While there isn’t a massive amount that differentiates Honor’s latest from the excellent Honor 7X on paper, the two look drastically different in person, with the Honor 9 Lite featuring a 2.5D glass finish as opposed to the 7X’s aluminum unibody.

The Honor 9 Lite is available from today in the UK from retailers Amazon, Argos, Very, AO.com and John Lewis in Sapphire Blue, Midnight Black, and Glacier Grey. Be sure to let us know what you think of Honor’s new phone in the comments!
