Even a 5 year old PC should be able to handle most games without issue. It’s not like you need bleeding edge technology to play the game, and even really old PC’s are capable, and generally, a simple GPU upgrade to a mid-level card is more than enough to carry you on.
I have a 9 year old PC which is actually quite capable, and was maybe high end when I built it. I changed out the video card about 6 years ago, and while the minimum specs are sometimes now now capable on the card, most still are. I don’t get a lot of the modern bells and whistles with the graphics though.
That said, I wouldn’t really care to go to a cloud based solution for my primary gaming. I have tons of physical copies of games, and could go the rest of my life without ever having to buy a new game. I don’t mind streaming, and it worked fine when I used the PSNow trials, and I use remote play quite a bit, but beyond that, I’m fine with local hardware.
If streaming took over gaming, I’d look at it more like how I transitioned away from how I watched TV. I used to watch a lot of TV and movies. DVR, broadcast TV, having my favorite shows and keeping up with them. Now, it’s more just binge watching, and long stretches where I don’t really watch anything. I might play sometimes, but generally, I wouldn’t bother that much. There would be no feeling that I have to, and given that even streamed TV media isn’t all that reliable 100% of the time, and the quality isn’t always as good as I like, it seems counter productive.
