Find the perfect gift for your mum with TNW’s Mother’s Day guide

Consider yourself warned, dear reader. There’s just nine days left until UK Mother’s Day.

Nine. Days. And you thought the countdown to Brexit was scary.

If this news has caused your blood pressure to plummet and beads of sweat to accumulate on your forehead, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. TNW’s compiled a list of gifts, experiences, and tech gadgets to make your mum beam with joy. Buy her something from this list, and I’ll guarantee that you’ll remain written into her will.

Ember Ceramic Mug

Whether she prefers English breakfast or chamomile, all mums can agree on one thing: there’s nothing worse than when a freshly-brewed mug of chai goes cold. Fortunately, the Ember Ceramic Mug makes that a problem of the past.

This mug contains a heating mechanism that ensures liquids stay to a pre-defined temperature. Its internal battery lasts for about an hour, or you can leave it on a wireless charging coaster. You can pick one up on Amazon for £79.95. Bit steep? Maybe, but it’s unlike any mug you’ve ever owned.

Noveltea Cocktails

On the subject of tea, I’ve really been enjoying Noveltea lately. These tea-based cocktails mix spirits (like rum, whiskey, and gin) with specifically chosen tea blends, like oolong and Earl Grey. Stick them in the fridge, and you’ve got an amazingly refreshing drink.

You can order Noveltea on Amazon. My personal favorite, The Tale of Oolong, blends a fragrant oolong tea with scotch whiskey. You can buy a 70-centiliter bottle on Amazon for £24.95.

Nixplay Seed Wave

Remember when digital photo frames first came out? For various reasons (mostly centered around them being crap), they didn’t catch on. The Nixplay Seed Wave, however, might reverse that trend, partially because it’s good.

For starters, it’s not just a digital photo frame. It can do other stuff. Connect your phone to it, and you can stream music over Wi-Fi. I’ve got one in my office, and its two 5-watt speakers sound decent enough. And, unlike the grainy, low-resolution frames of yore, the Nixplay Seed Wave has a gorgeous 13.3-inch IPS display, which shows family photos and movies in full 1080p glory.

If you’re feeling generous, you can pick one up on Amazon for £239.99.

Chipolo Card

If your mum is always misplacing her purse, the Chipolo Card is perhaps the best gift you can give her. This Bluetooth LE-enabled device is the same size and shape of a normal credit card and fits snugly into any purse or wallet. When it disappears, you can promptly locate it with the companion Chipolo app. Handy, right?

You can pick up a Chipolo Card for just £31.

Tile Mate and Slim trackers

I can’t mention Chipolo without bringing up Tile, right? It is, as we all know, the biggest player in this space.

You can get a bumper pack of trackers on Amazon for just £47, allowing you to keep ahold of your most precious items: your laptop, keys, phone, wallet. You name it.

KitSound XDock Qi Charger

Everyone needs an alarm clock. That being said, ever wish your alarm clock did more?

The KitSound XDock Qi Charger will wake you up, but if you’ve got a phone with wireless charging ability, it’ll recharge it while you sleep. You can also connect your phone to it via Bluetooth and have it blast out your inspirational morning playlist. You can pick one up on Amazon for just £69.99.

Soundasleep Pillow

On the subject of nocturnal activities, did you know you can get “smart” IoT pillows now? The Soundasleep Pillow comes with a built-in speaker, allowing you to fall asleep to some graceful ocean noises without waking up your partner (at least, in theory). It also comes with a companion app that, among over things, tracks your snoring.

Tempted? You can grab one for £49.99.

Yankee Candle’s Scent of the Year – One Together

And if your mum likes to relax in the bath with a candle, why not get her Yankee Candle’s signature 2019 scent, One Together. This burns for as many as 150 hours and boasts delicate floral notes.

You can grab one on Amazon for £25.99.

Evo Luxe Liberty Elysian

Phone cases protect your expensive handset from drops and cracks. That doesn’t mean they have to be ugly though, and the Evo Luxe Liberty Elysian is one of the prettiest I’ve seen. Clad in faux leather with a gorgeous floral design, it’s a veritable piece of art.

You can pick one up online on for £34.97. It’s not exactly cheap, but pretty things seldom are.

Dapper Wrapper

If your mum travels extensively with work, you could do worse than getting her the Dapper Wrapper. This fabric bundle lets you gather your loose items – like toothbrushes, batteries, and phone cables – and collect them into one easily unfurled bundle. There’s less mess, and her suitcase will be more organized. It also protects your stuff against any potential damage by cushioning against any blows.

The Dapper Wrapper comes in three color variants and costs £24.95 on Amazon.

Sandisk iXpand and Ultra

If your mum takes a lot of photos on her phone, she’s probably all too familiar with running up against the limits of her phone’s internal storage. While she could use an online storage service, like Dropbox or iCloud, she may prefer something closer to hand.

With that in mind, Sandisk sells a range of lightning and USB-C flash drives, allowing your mum (with a bit of tech know-how) to safely back up her snaps. A 32GB USB-C drive costs just £11.69 on Amazon, while the equivalent for iPhone costs a bit more, at £30.19.

Wingly

And if you don’t want to get your mum a physical present, why not get her an experience. Wingly is a service that pairs private pilots in the UK with passengers who will contribute towards fuel and upkeep of the plane.

Your mum will be able to see the best parts of the country (and abroad, as some pilots on Wingly fly internationally too) from the passenger seat of a Cessna 172. It’ll be an aviation experience unlike any other. You can find out more here.

Good luck!

Mother’s Day looms menacingly over the horizon. That said, there’s no excuse for being caught short. As you read above, we’ve got a selection of quality gifts, both technical and dumb, for the most discerning of mothers. Guaranteed, there’s something here she’ll love.
