Samsung Galaxy Note 10 may get 5G, quad rear camera setup, new name

The rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 10 may come with four rear cameras, according to speculation from SamMobile yesterday. Though it didn’t mention a source, the website said the upcoming handset may feature the quad-camera setup, giving the device two more rear cameras than last year’s Galaxy Note 9.

The flagship handset, which apparently will come with model number SM-N975F, is expected to arrive around August this year. It would not be the first Samsung phone to get the quad-camera treatment, however.

Samsung revealed the Galaxy S10 5G (pictured above) just last week, packing an ultrawide 16MP sensor, 12MP dual pixel sensor, a 12MP sensor with telephoto lens, and a 3D depth sensor. Presumably, the Note 10’s setup would similar to this, though perhaps with some minor upgrades; the Galaxy Note 9 used exactly the same dual 12MP sensors as the Galaxy S9 Plus.

SamMobile also suggested the Note 10 (or a variant of it) might support 5G like the S10 5G, and mentioned rumors that Samsung could rebrand the Note series. While it may have all the stylings of a traditional Note device, the handset may not be called Galaxy Note 10 at all.

It’s not a stretch to think Samsung might include four rear cameras and 5G capabilities on the Galaxy Note 10, especially given the Galaxy S10 5G announcement. Many Android manufacturers are pursuing the multiple camera trend — the Nokia 9 has five rear cameras — while 5G is expected to roll out in a much broader capacity in 2020 and a premium phones like the Note 10 will be expected to support it.

The prospect of a name change seems less certain, but since the Note 10 is still likely to be months away, I’d suggest taking all of these early rumors with a grain of salt.

What do you think of the speculation? Let me know in the comments.
