DETROIT — Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc., which supplies a variety of automotive sealing, hoses and brake and fuel lines, said it will move out of its current headquarters in Novi, Mich., after its new headquarters is completed in 2020 in the neighboring Detroit suburb of Northville.
The new three-story, 110,000-square-foot headquarters will be located on Seven Mile west of Haggerty Road in Northville. It will house about 400 employees.
The new headquarters will reflect more modern workspaces with an open-concept office space, video conferencing areas and outdoor spaces, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
“This is an important new chapter for Cooper-Standard that will help ensure our competitiveness and ability to recruit and retain talent,” CEO Jeffrey Edwards said in the statement. “The new Northville facility will enable easy access for our stakeholders and provide an environment that will support and contribute to the future growth of the company.”
As part of the project, Cooper-Standard plans to create 130 new jobs in Northville with an investment of up to $15.3 million. The Michigan Strategic Fund is supporting the new hires with a $1.3 million grant to offset the costs of the expansion, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. said in a memo.
Cooper-Standard hired Schostak Brothers & Co. Inc., Lindhout Associates Architects and Cunningham Limp to design, develop and build the new office.
Cooper-Standard employs roughly 33,000 worldwide with nearly 2,000 in Michigan, at production plants, technology centers and offices in 20 countries. The company ranks No. 66 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide sales to automakers of $3.61 billion in its 2017 fiscal year.
