It’s a sad day for comic fans around the world, with news that Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee has passed away. Fans of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and many other iconic superheroes are taking to social networks to share their stories about the impact his works have had on them, and it’s clear just how influential he was on the lives of others.
But it’s not just individual people that are taking the time to recognise the way he changed entertainment forever. DC Comics–home of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and more–posted a poignant tribute to Lee, reminding everyone how inextricably linked to the medium of comics he was, and how he embodied the positivity that comics can bring to their readers.
He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan.

In his lifetime, Lee became a towering figure in entertainment, with his creations leaping off the pages and panels of comics to permeate every facet of modern pop culture. Movie and television screens are now adorned with his creations, pulling more people into the worlds he gave life to than ever before. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to TV shows such as Agents of Shield to Netflix’s Daredevil, there’s no escaping his work (or his cameos).
This year, Insomniac Games, in partnership with Sony and Marvel, brought Spider-Man–Lee’s most famous creation–to PlayStation 4, delivering what is undoubtedly the character’s best ever outing in the medium. To this day, Lee’s works are being enjoyed by people from all walks of life, backgrounds, age groups, and interests.
Stan Lee’s work was powerful. It connected with people on a deep, emotional level, and that’s what makes it enduring. It has inspired countless more storytellers, and will no doubt continue to do so. While Lee may have passed on, his work will live on forever.
