Why Sony, Insomniac and Marvel are an outstanding team?
Because there where creative freedom, cooperation and no imposition whatsoever by the publisher on expensive DLC, GAAS (game as a service), Micro Transactions, Loot Boxes, Game Pass, Pay Walls or fragmented structure of the game left on purpose. There where some deadlines in the pipe line but these never hampered the game design structure. Insomniac too their time and Marvel gave them the choice of character.
Spider Man is nothing new but everything done right and THATS NEW. It gave new life to an old character, updated swing physics, provided hero Easter eggs, focused on a “ZELDA Breath of the Wild” approach in some sense, took care of the character acting and most importantly the SCRIPT. That script is made out of gold. Characters becomes alive and there are some sense of phycological evolution on them.
Spider Man felt real despite if this where a Super Hero product of figments on imagination. He landed his feet on earth, there’s some interactive reality where you can relate to him in your daily New York life. This is why the game will continue to sale. It sells because there is IMMERSION.
Any company who follows this formula will get success. Examples? Batman Arkham Night, Horizon Zero Dawn and Frozen Wilds, Bloodburne, God of War. ALL of them had a great creative writing and an amazing script. Their characters evolved and the story tried to have some sense in it. These are writers with an ACADEMIC BACKGROUND.
