Refreshed 2019 Hyundai Elantra Starts at $17,985

The refreshed 2019 Hyundai Elantra made its global debut in Utah last month, and today the Korean automaker announced pricing for the boldly restyled sedan. The new car starts at $17,985 for the base SE trim, which is only $150 more than last year’s model.

The Elantra SEL now includes Hyundai SmartSense safety and convenience technologies as standard. The tech suite gets you forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep assist, and driver attention warning, and comes standard on SEL and above trim levels. That additional tech comes at a cost, though, as the price increases get bigger (though they’re not huge jumps, all things considered) after the base model. The 2019 Elantra SEL starts at $20,285, up $550 from last year. If you want a livelier Sport model, it will set you back $23,285 for a six-speed manual version or $24,385 for one with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Those prices represent an increase of $600. The Value model returns for 2019, though is priced $550 more at $21,285. Meanwhile, the Eco trim’s base price goes up $400 to $21,835, and the feature-rich Limited trim rises $500 to $23,485.

For 2019, the Elantra compact sedan gets a new hood, front fenders, and new headlights that creep into a redesigned grille. Around back there’s a new rear fascia and cool taillights that slant into the new trunk lid.

“Refinements to both the interior and exterior were initiated on the 2019 Elantra to maintain its emotional design character and include affordable and desired features,” said Scott Margason, Hyundai product planning director, in a statement.

Hyundai has sold more than 3 million Elantras since its 1991 launch and the sixth-generation sedan is available in six trim levels—SE, SEL, Value Edition, Limited, Eco, and Sport.

There are three engine options to choose from depending on trim level—a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 147 hp, a 1.4-liter turbo-four with 128 hp, and a 1.6-liter turbo with an estimated 201 hp.

All non-Sport models get a six-speed automatic transmission, except for the Eco trim, which gets a seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch. If you want to row your own gears but don’t want to spring for a Sport model, a six-speed manual is also offered on the SE.
