WEST SUSSEX, England — McLaren’s newest supercar has a super sticker price.

The 600LT (Longtail), the performance version of the McLaren 570C entry-level car, starts at $240,000 before destination charges, McLaren announced last week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The 600LT, billed as the lightest, most powerful and quickest road-legal Sports Series McLaren, debuted at the annual car festival in southern England.

Inspired by the McLaren 675LT models, the 600LT has the physical hallmarks of a McLaren “Longtail,” including an extended front splitter, lengthened rear diffuser, fixed rear wing and elongated silhouette.

“This is a car for somebody who likes to drive, it’s not a boulevard cruiser,” Jolyon Nash, McLaren’s executive director of sales and marketing, told Automotive News. “You can drive it every day, but that’s not its purpose.”

McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt describes the 600LT as “huge fun” to drive.

“If I was going to Monaco, I’d probably pick the 720S,” Flewitt said. “But, if I was going to drive to Silverstone and do a track there, I’d probably take my 600LT.”

Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, the 600LT delivers 592 hp and 457 pound-feet of torque. That translates into 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 240 mph.
