Italian supercar maker Pagani is adding a soft top to its list of options for the insane Huayra supercar. The coupe came first back in 2013, then a hard-top roadster followed last year. Now it’s adding a removable soft-top version in conjunction with motorcycle gear maker Dainese.
The soft top, according to Pagani, is a combination of components in a “Highly Elastic Carbon Fiber Modulus” developed by Pagani, connected with aluminum and titanium billet joints. The Dainese fabric stretches over that frame.
The fabric is waterproof and folds like origami. This reduces the amount of storage space, according to Pagani, and offers “a one-of-a-kind” look.
As far as we can tell, it keeps the same Mercedes-AMG-sourced V12 that made 754 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque in the hardtop roadster, sent through a seven-speed automated manual and onto the rear wheels. The hardtop roadster undercut the coupe’s weight by 176 pounds, for a total of 2,820 pounds, and we’d assume this version is even lighter.
We’re not sure if the roadster will show up at the Geneva auto show, but with the timing of the release, it’s a safe bet.
