LG G7 (Neo) spotted at MWC 2018, but no one knows why it is there

  • Even though LG officially announced the V30S, the company’s G7 (Neo) was spotted at MWC 2018.
  • The G7 (Neo) was reportedly scrapped for another phone, so its appearance is surprising.
  • The G7 (Neo) might feature flagship specifications, but its future is a complete mystery.

LG’s flagship plans for 2018 are nebulous at best, but during MWC 2018, Israeli publication Ynet gave us a look at what could have been: the LG G7 (Neo). It’s strange this phone exists, let alone that it showed up at the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry.

According to VentureBeat‘s Evan Blass, the G7 (Neo) might be the device LG scrapped in favor of the device reportedly-codenamed Judy. Since LG plans to retire the G-series moniker, we do not know what Judy will officially be called once it becomes available.

If the G7 (Neo) was actually cancelled, why the phone still showed up at MWC 2018 is a mystery. Even weirder, Blass also said the G7 (Neo) was accompanied by two other phones — the Q7 and V35 — and a new watch.

Maybe LG wanted to show off the progress it made with Judy. Maybe the G7 (Neo) was meant to show off LG’s design philosophy for the near future.

Whatever the G7 (Neo) is supposed to be, the phone has all the pre-requisites of a 2018 flagship smartphone. It features a 6-inch 3120 x 1440 OLED with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and notch at the top, a terrible design which has unfortunately caught on with other Android phones. Around back are the two vertically-aligned 16 MP cameras and fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, the G7 (Neo) features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 6 GB of RAM, up to 128 GB of storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. We presume the phone runs Android Oreo out of the box, but there is no official word.

There is also no official word on the G7 (Neo) itself. The phone seemingly came out of nowhere and is a total enigma to us all.

We’ve reached out to LG for additional information and will update this article if we hear back.
